Snow and ice are the conditions that matter far less here than they do east toward Sedro-Woolley and the Cascade foothills. Conway's low elevation means significant snow load is rare, though the valley can occasionally see a brief freezing rain or ice event during an Arctic outflow, and a roof with poor attic ventilation is more likely to develop ice buildup at the eaves during one of those cold snaps because heat escaping from the living space melts snow that then refreezes at the colder eave edge. That ventilation requirement isn't just good practice — attic ventilation and insulation minimums are set out in the Washington State Energy Code, and a roof system that meets code tends to manage moisture and temperature swings noticeably better than one that doesn't.

It's still worth specifying corrosion-resistant fasteners and flashing rather than the cheapest available option, since exposed metal near the coast corrodes faster than the same material would inland toward Sedro-Woolley.
